Favorite Books

Now that it is summer, I have so much more time to read. I have always loved reading and grew up in a big family of readers. Last night I finished “Drinking: A Love Story” by Caroline Knapp. It was really great. I have a long list of books I want, and in case you’re like me, you’re always looking to add to that list. My brother always has a long handwritten list in his wallet of ten books he thought sounded interesting, according to Esquire or Vice Magazine or word of mouth. I have an iPhone note called “BOOKS!!!” that is getting entirely too long.

So to help you with your hopefully similarly crazy book lists…

Here are some of my  favorite books:

The Descendants – Kaui Hart Hemmings

Take The Long Way Home – Gail Caldwell

Silver Linings Playbook – Matthew Quick

Girls In White Dresses – Jennifer Close

Beautiful Disaster – Jamie McGuire

The Lost Legends of New Jersey – Frederick Reiken (*This is my favorite book)

The Fault In Our Stars – John Green

Along For The Ride – Sarah Dessen

The World According to Garp – John Irving

On Writing – Stephen King

Molokai – Alan Brennert

Commencement – J. Courtney Sullivan

MWF Seeks BFF – Rachel Bertsche

Sloppy Firsts – Megan McCafferty

Perks Of Being A Wallflower – Stephen Chobsky

I Was Told There Would Be Cake – Sloane Crossley

The Magicians – Lev Grossman

The Time Traveler’s Wife – Audrey Niffenegger (*My second favorite book)

Love The One You’re With – Emily Giffin

Please remember to never let anyone make you feel bad about the kind of books that you read. We can’t all like Toni Morrison or Leo Tolstoy or Nicholas Sparks. Books are on a spectrum, and as long as YOU enjoy what you’re reading, you shouldn’t care what anyone else has to say about it. Sometimes a good vampire book can be just as enlightening as a literary classic.
