Today I’ve got a pink that I tend to ignore in my collection. I like hot pinks, Barbie pinks, girly girl neons (like Rose Among Thorns and my baby Fancy Fuchsia)… and pass right over my delicate pinks. But Suzi Shops and Island Hops doesn’t deserve to be ignored! It’s a polish I picked up from the Hawaii Collection OPI in spring 2015. Let’s see how it performs!
This is undeniably a beautiful color. I don’t think it’s especially flattering on my skin tone, but it’s lovely in the bottle and on the nail. My notes read “pale pink perfection.” Soft little pastel pink that reminds me of the inside of a seashell. When you think of it that way, it’s the perfect addition to a Hawaii Collection.
If you’re a nail polish addict like me, you know that the paler the color, the more difficult the formula. Finding an opaque white that’s not goopy is pretty hard. Finding a pale pink that’s not streaky and thin is a challenge. This is because white base polishes are harder to formulate.
The first coat of Suzi Shops is a little streaky, and it’s more liquidy than I was expecting. It looked pretty good in two coats, but I decided it needed a third. A heavy third coat really made it perfect. I was very pleasantly surprised by this formula and topped it with a shiny top coat.
This one lasted for a few days on me, which was nice. I was expecting it to chip much sooner since it’s so light and delicate. But it wore well! I wouldn’t recommend this one for a newbie. The color took finesse to apply, and pale pinks are unforgiving of sloppy application. It’s for sale on Amazon for $10, which is pretty standard for OPI. If you don’t have a pale pink in your collection and are looking to add one, this is a great pink to grab. I’m glad I have this one in my stash for those rare baby pink moods!
Defying pale pink polish stereotypes by not sucking: 10/10
What do you think of this one? Do you like a pale pink like this? Do you have many light pastels in your stash?
Have a great week!
